The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun

Synopsis

The 1970 directorial debut of George Greenough is The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun. The 70 minute film captures the freedom of ocean living and the first stages of the short board revolution on the East coast of Australia and California USA.
Set to a bespoke surf-jazz music score, Greenough captures some of Australia’s best board riders of the time Chris Brock, Bob McTavish, Ted Spencer and Gary Keyes uniquely filmed from beach and water angles. The ‘Coming of the Dawn’ provides the film’s famous finale, a pioneering triumph of slow motion footage that enables the audience to see inside the most coveted perspective of surfing.. the Tube.
Innermost Limits of Pure Fun is seen as one of Australia’s cult surf movies and has recently been restored from the original 16mm film masters to 4K cinema with surround 5:1 sound.
“It was George who first captured our imagination then reprogrammed it.He is rightly seen as the Godfather of modern Surfing”
