Joko Anwar's big screen adaptation of the Indonesian comic book character Gundala that was created by Hasmi in 1969. The movie follows Sancaka, who has to learn to fend for himself as he grew up alone on the streets after his parents left him while he was a young boy. Now as an adult, he works as a security guard. One day, after being struck by lightning, he finds that it has awakened his superpowers. He must now decide whether to continue living only looking after himself or put his powers to good use and rise to become a hero for the oppressed.
