In the summer of 1919, under a scorching sun. A war hero is held prisoner in abandoned barracks. His dog is barking by the door night and day. Not far, a brilliant but tired young woman works the land, waiting and hoping. A judge -a nobleman- whose principles have been sorely shaken by the war comes to sort out this case.
