Si Tanggang produced in 1961 is a well-known folklore.
The film tells a story of a mother’s unconditional love for her son, Tanggang who grew up dreaming of all the good things in life and being rich.
He was willing to disobey his widowed mother when he left her to make a fortune with promises to return for her.
One day, he slipped into a ship that happened to dock near his village before he was allowed to work on board. He rise up the ranks until he became the ship’s captain. As the former captain took a liking on him, he was betrothed to a girl, Kenanga.
Tanggang succeeded in getting rid of the pirates and the King bestowed him with the highest rank and marries him to his only daughter. When Kenanga found out about this union, she sadly committed suicide.
Time goes by, when his ship finally docked near his village. As soon as the news of his return reached his mother, she rowed to the ship in a sampan just to visit her son.
Unfortunately, marrying royalty has made Tanggang very arrogant. How does his mother feel and what will she do when her only son who have forgotten all his promises and worse of all, refused to acknowledge his own mother…
