Gloria! is a 2024 historical musical film directed by Margherita Vicario in her feature debut. Set in 1800 Venice, the story centers on Teresa, a servant at a dilapidated music school for orphaned girls. Often overlooked and referred to as "the mute," Teresa possesses an extraordinary ability to perceive the harmony of the universe. Upon discovering a newly invented instrument - the pianoforte - she collaborates with a group of talented students to create a bold, modern sound that defies the conventions of their time, marking the birth of pop music.
The film features Galatéa Bellugi as Teresa, with Carlotta Gamba, Maria Vittoria Dallasta, Sara Mafodda, and Veronica Lucchesi portraying her fellow musicians. Gloria! premiered at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in 2024, competing for the Golden Bear.
