Mou Dexian (Xiao Zhan), a machinist from the Jinling Machinery Factory, flees into the mountains with his family during wartime. There, they settle in “Gezhi Town,” where artillery officer Xiao Yan (Peng Yuchang) and a handful of abandoned soldiers have also taken refuge. Although Mou Dexian, his wife Xia Cheng (Zhou Yiran), his great-grandfather, and his young son briefly experience peaceful days, danger strikes when a small Japanese reconnaissance squad led by Okawara (Yin Zheng) suddenly appears. What follows is a tense confrontation in which ordinary civilians use ingenuity and courage to resist professional, well-trained soldiers. Facing overwhelming odds, can they protect the only home they have left?
