Whip, Fedora, Adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark Returns to Australian Cinemas

By FandyAugust 29, 2026

One of cinema’s most beloved adventure films is heading back to the big screen, giving Australian audiences another chance to join Indiana Jones on the treasure hunt that started it all. Steven Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark is returning to cinemas as part of a special theatrical revival, bringing the iconic 1981 classic back to where its larger-than-life action truly belongs.

Starring Harrison Ford as the fearless archaeologist Indiana Jones, the film follows the adventurer on a dangerous mission in 1936. After surviving a deadly expedition in the South American jungle, Indy is drawn into a global race to find the Ark of the Covenant, a legendary biblical artefact believed to possess extraordinary power. His journey takes him from Nepal to Egypt, but he soon finds himself facing his old rival René Belloq and a ruthless group of Nazis determined to claim the prize first.

Directed by Spielberg from a story created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, Raiders of the Lost Ark became an instant landmark in blockbuster filmmaking. Its blend of action, humour, mystery and old-fashioned serial-style adventure helped create one of cinema’s most enduring heroes, while Ford’s performance turned Indiana Jones into a character recognised around the world.

The film also features Karen Allen as the spirited Marion Ravenwood, alongside Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, John Rhys-Davies, Denholm Elliott and Alfred Molina. With a runtime of 115 minutes and a PG classification, the film remains a thrilling big-screen experience for both longtime fans and a new generation discovering Indy’s adventures for the first time.

According to Australian cinema guide MuviTimes, Raiders of the Lost Ark is currently listed for upcoming screenings across Australia, with sessions appearing in major cities and selected Event Cinemas locations. The page also lists the film among releases available through participating cinema chains around the country, although screening schedules may vary depending on location.

More than four decades after its original release, Raiders of the Lost Ark has lost none of its sense of spectacle. From its unforgettable opening sequence to its thrilling desert chase and supernatural finale, the film remains a masterclass in cinematic adventure.

For Australian moviegoers, this theatrical return offers the perfect excuse to put on the fedora, crack the whip and experience the beginning of Indiana Jones’ legendary journey on the biggest screen possible.
