Death Is Only the Beginning: Korean Sleeper Hit 'Reawakened Man' Arrives in Australian Cinemas

By FandyOctober 08, 2026

Australian moviegoers with a taste for high-stakes action and supernatural intrigue have something genuinely different to look forward to this October, as the Korean thriller Reawakened Man makes its way onto screens across the country.

Directed by Jong-Yeol Baek, the film centres on SEOK Hwan (Koo Kyo-hwan), a young man whose luck seems to have run out entirely. After yet another failed job interview, he returns home defeated—only to be attacked and killed by a group of strangers. But seventy-two hours later, Seok Hwan opens his eyes. He's alive. And he soon realises he possesses something extraordinary: no matter how many times he dies, he comes back.

That premise alone would be enough to carry most thrillers, but Reawakened Man pushes further. A shadowy figure known only as Black (Shin Seung-Ho) has discovered Seok Hwan's secret, and he's not interested in studying it—he wants to hunt it down. What Black doesn't count on is that each resurrection makes Seok Hwan stronger, unlocking abilities he never could have imagined.

The film carries a strong emotional anchor through its supporting cast. Kang Ki-young plays Young-ha, Seok Hwan's steadfast best friend, while Kim Si-Ah portrays his younger sister Ye-rin—two people whose loyalty gives the story its heart amid the chaos. Kim Sung-ryung, Kim In-woo, and international actors including Kevin Dockry and Robert Michael Evans round out the ensemble.

Clocking in at 101 minutes, the film blends action, thriller, and drama into a package that has already generated considerable buzz since its Korean release. It's the kind of genre-bending storytelling that has made Korean cinema a consistent draw for Australian audiences in recent years.

Sydney residents can catch Reawakened Man at several Hoyts locations. Hoyts Broadway is running a 6:40 PM session, while Hoyts Chatswood Mandarin screens at 7:00 PM. Out west, Hoyts Penrith offers a 6:15 PM showing, and Hoyts Blacktown has a late session at 9:20 PM. Ticket prices vary by location, so it's worth checking ahead.

For those who like their action films with a philosophical edge—what does it mean to keep living when death refuses to stick?—Reawakened Man looks set to deliver. It's now showing at participating cinemas.
