Yip Yip! Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender Brings a New Chapter of the Beloved Saga to Australia

By FandyOctober 01, 2026

The world of Avatar: The Last Airbender is expanding once again, with Aang and his friends returning for a brand-new animated adventure. Originally positioned as a theatrical release, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender has taken a different path and is now available to Australian audiences through Paramount+, following a major change to its release strategy.

The film follows an older Aang and his friends several years after the events of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series. Rather than revisiting the story audiences already know, the new adventure moves the characters into adulthood and explores a world that has changed considerably since Aang defeated Fire Lord Ozai.

At the centre of the story is a mysterious discovery that could have major consequences for the Air Nomad legacy. Aang learns of an ancient power that could help revive his culture, setting him and his friends on a global journey to find it before it falls into the wrong hands.

The voice cast features Eric Nam as Aang, alongside Dave Bautista as Tagah, Jessica Matten as Katara, Román Zaragoza as Sokka, Steven Yeun as Zuko and Dionne Quan as Toph. Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Ronny Chieng and Ken Jeong also lend their voices to the film.

Directed by Lauren Montgomery and William Mata, the film continues the visual and storytelling traditions established by the original animated series. MuviTimes currently lists it with a 45-minute runtime and genres including action, adventure and animation, describing it as a story about Aang and his friends as young adults.

There is also a strong Australian connection behind the production. Sydney-based animation studio Flying Bark Productions was the primary animation studio on the film, working alongside South Korea's Studio Mir. The project therefore represents a significant contribution from Australia's animation industry to one of the world's best-known animated franchises.

For Australian audiences, however, the release story has changed considerably. The film was originally expected to receive a theatrical release, but Paramount ultimately shifted it to Paramount+, with the Australian service confirming a July 25, 2026 premiere.

That means MuviTimes' current “coming soon” cinema listing should be treated as outdated rather than as confirmation of an upcoming Australian theatrical screening. The film is no longer an upcoming cinema release in Australia under the current Paramount schedule.

Even so, the return of Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko and Toph offers longtime fans another opportunity to explore the world that began with the original animated series. With the characters now older and a new threat connected to Aang's heritage, the story opens another chapter in the expanding Avatar universe.

For fans in Australia, the journey has already begun — just not on the cinema screen originally expected.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is now streaming on Paramount+ in Australia.
